The Seven Chakras

Hello so apologies that it’s been a while! I’m back today with a post about Chakras! I’ve mentioned this a few times but never actually wrote a blog about them, so here it is!

The Seven Chakras

Okay so firstly, Chakras are 7 energy points located throughout the body that when energised, are believed to balance out the whole body, spiritually, mentally and physically.

A lot of spiritualists, healers or holistic practitioners have the belief that Chakras are an important part of living a healthy life and when your chakras are out of balance then this is when we can get mental or physical illnesses. On the other hand it is also the belief that activating and balancing all seven chakras can bring a higher, universal relationship with our spirituality and soul being.

Chakras have been around for a very long time and can be dated back to ancient spiritual texts as far back as 500 BC, at least when it was first mentioned. It originates from around India, and can be first found in Hinduism and Buddhism religions.

Chakras nowadays are probably most heard of surrounding meditation and Yoga practices but also are an integral part in crystal healing and spiritual growth.

My Experience

My experience with chakras has been a natural progression of just learning along the way. Until researching for this blog post, I have just gradually learnt about the chakras through meditation, yoga and crystal healing.

The chakras was one of the first things I discovered in the beginning my spiritual journey as everything I heard is that your Third eye chakra is the first to open after your spiritual awakening. Because of this I came across a lot of meditation videos for your Third eye chakra and this started my journey with meditation.

Since then I have discovered all the seven chakras and learnt what I needed too about them, I did a weeklong meditation workshop on YouTube and it was a meditation practice for each chakra for seven days. This was really incredible, I was learning what each chakra was for as the week progressed and by the end of it felt amazing and very connected to myself.

I have also done crystal healing sessions where they work with your chakras and restore the balance. I have learnt to recognise that when I’m feeling mentally or physically unwell, one of the first things I will do is a body check with my chakras. I would say I am most connected to my Root chakra and Third eye chakra as these are related to nature and intuition, my experience with chakras has been an ever-changing relationship but I am making a bigger effort to work with keeping them all in balance as much as I can. I have also learnt through many days of battling with my mental health, the chakras play a big role in my anxiety. So if I’m feeling really anxious, I will normally get my crystals and listen to chakra meditation videos to sleep.

Chakras

“Root chakra (Muladhara)

So the first Chakra of seven is The Root chakra, now this is located at the base of your spine, this is one of your first chakras to open when you have your awakening.

Your Root chakra is connected to your sense of grounding and stability in life, it also linked to our instinct of survival and connection back to nature as it connected to the Earth element.

When this chakra is unbalanced it can affect your mental health in association to anxiety, fear, instability and low self-esteem. Physically it can affect your weight, digestion and anaemia.

You can balance/ activate this chakra through meditation, yoga or as this is linked to the earth, walking barefoot in nature is a great way (This is called Earthing).

“Sacral Chakra (Svadhisthana)

The second chakra is The Sacral Chakra, this chakra is located between the naval and is connected to your sexuality, creativity and pleasure.

The Sacral chakra is linked to the element of water! Which is a really peaceful and happy energy that drives us to go and get what we want in our lives.

When this chakra is unbalanced it can affect your mental health in relation to depression, eating disorders have been associated to this in imbalance and guilt. Physically it can affect your spleen and kidneys, premenstrual syndrome, lower back pain and joint problems.

The Sacral Chakra is an important chakra in regards to our dreams in life and getting what we want as human beings so when it is unblocked you can find yourself being more outgoing and courageous!

To activate this chakra or balance it, meditation, yoga (especially pelvic poses), visualisation, and seemingly strange but dancing has been known to awaken your Sacral chakra as it surrounded it happy energy and can be very much connected to the hip/ pelvic region.

“The Solar Plexus chakra” (Manipura)

Okay so thirdly we have The Solar Plexus Chakra! This is located above the navel around the abdomen. This chakra is responsible for your self esteem and finding balance and control in your life.

The Solar Plexus Chakra is linked to the element of Fire. The fire element is connected to passion, so in this chakra the fire element is ‘igniting your fire’ to go after what you want and putting that flame underneath you of self confidence.

As the Solar Plexus Chakra is based in the abdomen/stomach region, when this chakra is unbalanced it can cause a lot of digestion issues, gastric issues, stomach aches, heartburn, nausea and loss of appetite.

This chakra can be balanced by forms of yoga, meditation, visualisation, therapy, self healing work, incense and affirmations.

The Heart Chakra (Anahata)

The forth chakra is The Heart Chakra, now this is obvious by the name of one, it is located in the heart region. This chakra is responsible for your emotions such as; empathy, love, forgiveness, compassion and trust.

The Heart chakra is connected to the element of Air, which makes a lot of sense as the air element is based around letting go and feeling free to life’s challenges.

As The Heart Chakra is based in your heart region, when unbalanced it can affect your blood circulation, respiratory illnesses (asthma), fear, anxiety, anger, jealousy and paranoia.

This chakra is very much a more emotional chakra than physical but as most know sometimes anxiety and anger can be animated in our body as physical ailments too so it’s tricky sometimes trying to identify these issues.

To balance out The Heart Chakra you can practice Yoga, breath- work, meditation, journaling, therapy, focusing on what makes your soul happy.

The Throat Chakra (Vishuddha)

The fifth chakra, The Throat Chakra, which is located (given the name) in the throat area. This chakra is responsible for your communication skills and expression on your personal beliefs.

The Throat Chakra is connected to element of space (ether), meaning that this chakra connects you to the divine. This can be interpreted in many different ways depending on your views but generally Ether means the universe and divine energy.

When this chakra is unbalanced it can affect your thyroid, hearing, voice and mentally it can cause anxiety issues, arrogance, fearfulness and lack of understanding.

This chakra is so focused around self expression that this chakra can be blocked due to being unable to be who you are, freely with fear of judgement. This chakra can be open/ balanced by Reiki healing, mantras, yoga poses, crystals, journaling and because this chakra is surrounded in blue divine energy, it can be good to bring more blue into your life, or I would even suggest sitting outside and connect with the sun/ blue sky (sun salutation meditation).

The Third Eye Chakra (Ajna)

So second to last is The Third eye chakra! This chakra is the first chakra I ever learnt about and worked with, so this one is special to me as it’s truly what brought me back to life after struggling with depression for a long time.

As hinted at by the name, this chakra is located at the centre of your head, between both of your eyes is related to your intuition and spiritual connection.

The third eye chakra is connected to the element of Light, this is related to your inner consciousness and bringing awareness to the ‘universal’ world around you, in a sense ‘opening your eyes’.

When this chakra is unbalanced you can suffer from headaches/ migraines, personality disorders, vision problems, mental health illnesses, neurological disorders and seizures.

To open up your Third eye chakra, meditation is the main way, mantras, also crystals such as amethyst or clear Quartz.

The Crown Chakra (Sahasrara)

Finally, the last chakra is The crown chakra! This is located at the top of your head and is the chakra of true enlightenment!

The crown chakra doesn’t actually have a element linked to it as it is known as ‘pure energy’ and is connected to all elements.

When this chakra is unbalanced it can cause serious distortion in human thought processes, such as psychosis, dissociation, dissociative disorders, lack of spiritual beliefs, isolation tendencies.

You can heal and balance this chakra through meditation, mantras, therapy, journaling and also an unbalance of this chakra normal comes from imbalance of another chakra so maybe work your way through all your chakras to find the true cause.
